The shop is owned by Beth Firth-Martin. She is also the owner of “Owlets N’ Things” and “Rope + Threads”. She makes and creates kids toys alongside her husband, Andrew. She has been a maker for the last eight years and actually got her start six years ago selling in downtown Guelph at a the market on Quebec Street. This is where she fell in love with Guelph. The rest is history!

The Handmade Den was launched in 2016 as a pop up called “Owlets N’ Things”. The shop started with 30 artisans and has now grown to include the work of over 80 artisans from across Canada. In 2017, we re-branded as “The Handmade Den” and found our home on Carden Street for a year and a half.

In April 2018, we had a wonderful opportunity to relocate to 24 Wilson Street, Guelph, in a beautiful heritage building. We re-opened our doors in May 2018 and we are loving life on Wilson Street. The Handmade Den isn’t your typical store. We have created a unique space featuring local and Canadian handcrafted items for sale. As such, The Handmade Den strives for a unique shopping experience. We are family friendly (furry friends, too) and are so grateful to be a part of the Guelph community. We have a play area so that moms and dads can relax and shop while their little ones are occupied!!

This spring, we opened “The Maker’s Station” within The Handmade Den. This space was created to further build our maker community by offering access to tools, expertise, and workshops for artisans and the community alike. We offer regular classes, custom parties, one-on-one lessons about the available tools, as well as an ever-increasing supply of fabric and DIY materials. We look forward to supporting a thriving community of makers of all ages!
